2. Water Meter Shows That You Have a Leak
Your water meter can help you determine whether or not there’s a leak in your home. Follow these steps to read your water meter and see if there’s a leak:
- Locate your water meter and check the gauge.
- See if there’s a "leak indicator" on the face of the meter. If it’s moving, you have a leak.
- Some meters may not have a leak indicator, but do have a have a sweep hand. In that case, continue with these steps.
- Shut off any water in your house.
- Mark where the meter hand is, and wait 20 minutes.
- If the meter hand has moved, that means water is still moving through your system, and you likely have a leak.
Stained, Damaged, or Sagging Walls
If any of your walls, ceilings, or floors are warped, bubbling, sagging, or stained, it may be being caused by pipes that are leaking in that area.
